Cheers! Oneshi Press proudly announces that our co-founder, sex-positive writer Lynsey G., has won a gold medal in the 2018 Independent Book Publishers Awards, or IPPYs! The award was granted to her nonfiction book, Watching Porn. Lynsey likes to say that she cleverly disguised this informative book about the adult entertainment industry as a memoir.

Published in 2017 by independent publisher the Overlook Press, it’s gotten rave reviews from The New York Times Book ReviewPlayboyGlamour, and Kirkus Reviews, to name a few.

“I’m absolutely over the moon!” says Lynsey G. “I love to educate readers about the intricacies of the adult entertainment industry. It’s immensely gratifying to see that that passion is being appreciated out in the world!” G. has worked as a journalist and reviewer in and around the American porn industry for over ten years, and Watching Porn is the culmination of that journey. From smut terminology and insider information about STI testing, to after-hours parties with porn stars and examinations of prejudice in smut, Watching Porn answers readers’ most pressing questions about what goes on in one of the world’s most secretive industries.

Watching Porn

Watching Porn is G.’s first foray into nonfiction book writing. But she has been active as a reviewer, interviewer, and journalist for more than ten years. She began writing DVD reviews and copy for an adult magazines in 2007 before starting her own online trade magazine, WHACK!, in 2009. Since then, she’s written about pornography for McSweeneysPlayboyAllureGlamourMen’s HealthMEL MagazineBitchRefinery29, and others.

Tracy Queen

Lynsey G.’s fascination with the porn industry is one of the driving inspirations behind her first graphic novel: the feminist, sex-positive, Tracy Queen. She applied her expert knowledge about the industry to writing the graphic novel. And she used her observations of how pornography is perceived by consumers in constructing Tracy’s epic story.

For instance, Tracy Queen, an independent performer, is diametrically opposed to Dickie Doublefinger, a porn kingpin. Lynsey G. wrote his character an over-the-top embodiment of what some consumers imagine all pornographers to be: He’s crass, sleazy, and greasy, and he loves to objectify women.

But Tracy, and her cadre of sex-positive porn performers, know that smut doesn’t have to be exploitative. Instead, it can be beautiful, empowering, and even feminist!
