Description

Composed by Jack Schell in collaboration with Jayel Draco, Great Nations Soundtrack is an album of musical accompaniment for the book The Great Nations of Rendaraia from the epic sci-fi fantasy series Children of Gaia. This project was Jack Schell’s final gift of music to the world, as he passed from this realm on June 10th, 2018, not having been able to see it published. It is with great reverence that we thank you on Jack’s behalf for listening with an open heart and letting your mind wander through the soundscapes he created to help you explore the landscapes and magic of the realm of Rendaraia.

In the land of Rendaraia, a diverse network of cultures coexists, each one interdependent on the others and the world around them. This balance is destroyed when the five Great Nations fall to a mysterious and ruthless invader. Soon hundreds of unique cultures—Tribesfolk and city-dwellers; artists and warriors; magic wielders and scientific scholars—are pitted against brutal imperial forces driven by the rapacious demands of their own divided home. But Rendaraia and its invaders are linked more deeply than anyone realizes. From the lethal maneuverings of the imperial ruling classes to the desperate fight for survival in Rendaraia’s deepest wilderness, battles are fought with soldiers and sex, magic and technology, wits and weaponry. While some seek to save their vanishing way of life, others strive to raise new
kingdoms from the ash. See the universe of Children of Gaia through the eyes of those who seek to survive in it, preserve it, destroy it, and shape it.

The Great Nations of Rendaraia have stood for centuries as strongholds of culture, magical arts, scientific knowledge, and military strength. When, one by one, the Nations fall—each destroyed in a day, with no time for word or warning—the intrepid scholar Jan’Ka’Zian sets out to find the reason and record a vanishing world. Join Jan’Ka’Zian on his quest to document a network of intertwined cultures on the edge of destruction—and search for his beloved husband, who went missing in the attack. From mighty airships powered by bioluminescent microorganisms to a city of gleaming towers built around colossal trees, the Great Nations of Rendaraia exist in a fully realized fantasy world as complex and inventive as those of Tolkien and Lewis. Jayel Draco’s gorgeous illustrations present a vivid picture of elaborate cityscapes and mountain vistas, vast skyfaring fleets, and fantastic flora and fauna. While epic in its own right, Jan’Ka’Zian’s tragic story is one small thread in a larger tapestry: a tale of destruction, rebirth, magic, and transformation told within the larger world of Children of Gaia.

In loving memory of Jack Schell, The Soundweaver, August 13, 1959 – June 10, 2018.
Composer for Oneshi Press, Jack Schell, The Soundweaver, created the music for the Children of Gaia : the Great Nations Soundtrack , the Oneshi Press intro video, and several other Oneshi Press projects. Jack drew from a broad range of musical styles and genres to create compositions that evoke visual images in the listener’s mind and form what may be called soundscapes, or musical art pieces. Schell had a unique, signature sound and style that combines uncommon rhythms with sweet, sometimes quirky, fun, and memorable melodies to form original compositions that appeal to all walks of life. From an early age, Jack picked up instruments and made music from them, often with a unique perspective that influenced the sounds he produced. He learned piano, clarinet, drums, and percussion in his childhood. He picked up again with the advent of Atari computer and MIDI music software in the mid-1980s, when he began to compose his signature style of music. With several releases over the last thirty years, Jack created well-rounded soundscapes filled with depth and intrigue. In addition to his website and Facebook , you can also find Jack’s work on spotify, cdbaby, and iTunes.
